Work & Study
Work and study grades are a calculated by checking in classwork and by using our Work and Study rubric. Scroll to the bottom to download a copy of the Work and Study rubric.
Class Incentives
First graders often need positive reinforcement to encourage desired behaviors. Here are some of the ways we encourage good choices in our classroom:
- Group Points- Table groups can earn points for working as a team to follow directions quickly. On Friday, the group with the most points gets a prize.
- Class Tickets- Individual students can earn class tickets for following our class rules and/or being a good helper. Tickets can be redeemed in our class store.
- Class Points- When the class as a whole is on task, receives a compliment from another teacher, or is working exceptionally well together, the class earns points (tallies, marbles in a jar, Mr. Potato head pieces, "eggs" in a basket etc.). Upon earning a certain amount of points the class is rewarded with a prize (Fun Friday, extra Brain Breaks, game time, etc.)
- Above and Beyond- This is a school wide incentive program that is given to students for showing outstanding behavior.
- Class Necklaces- These are a student favorite. Necklaces are a way for students to display earned tags and beads.
- Super Improvers- By far my favorite incentive program in class is our Super Improvers chart. This chart allows me to acknowledge even the smallest improvement in the widest variety of areas. Upon earning 5 stars, students move up the Super Improvers chart and earn a bead for their class necklace.
